I love granite. I think every dental office should have as much of it as they can afford. But what if you don’t own the building? Should you still spend $60/sf to have granite? No way.

Put the expensive granite up front in your lobby areas to make the best impression, but things can be less fancy on the way back. The cheapest remodel upgrade (aside from paint) is the countertops. If you already have Formica or laminate counters you can easily add another layer. The surface has to be clean and well adhered.

One day I am going to get a simple quote signed to cleanup the cables on the front desk. We will pull all the computers, printers, etc off the desk, add a new layer of formica, reassemble the computers with good cable management and wait for the call in the morning. “Come do all my counter tops”
